This book was published after Amelie von Wulffen’s exhibition at Kunsthalle Bern (2019) and includes five additional solo exhibitions, including the exhibition at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2020-21). Since the artist’s comprehensive monograph was published in 2017, many new paintings and sculptures have been created. Against the backdrop of intersections between her own family chronicle and a history of national interest, they address emotional and also psychoanalytical issues. At the core of the interest lies the relationship between autonomy and heritage, the unconscious and the conscious, the carrying along of trauma or guilt, as well as hidden longings, fantasies or the disclosure of shame. In the pictorial worlds these are found behind mundane, banal, funny or everyday scenes and intertwine with them. Texts by Helmut Draxler, Valérie Knoll and Tonio Kröner delve deeper and offer different perspectives on the work.
